Unite announces further strike dates (11/05/2010)
Unite has today announced a further 20 days of strike action. The action will take place in four blocks of five days, from May 18, 2010 through to June 9, 2010.
We are saddened but not surprised that Unite has announced further plans for extensive disruption for potentially hundreds of thousands of our customers over a busy period that includes the May half-term holidays.
This decision has no semblance of justification. Unite's officials continue to operate in their own world, showing callous disregard for our customers and their own members in all parts of our airline.
We have continued to build on our contingency planning following the last industrial action in March and as a result we expect to run a significant part of our operations normally:
- All flights to and from Gatwick will continue to operate as normal;
- At Heathrow we plan to operate a substantial part of our longhaul schedule as before and there will be a number of daily flights to every destination across our shorthaul network;
- The long haul freighter programme will not be affected;
- Any adjustments to the short haul freighter programme will be communicated in due course;
- Our trucking operation will operate normally.
We will announce the finalised schedule as soon as possible. We are already working through the implications on your bookings. If they are affected, your local BA World Cargo representative will contact you to make alternative arrangements for your consignment as soon as possible.
If you have any concerns or questions please do not hesitate to contact your local BA World Cargo representative.
