Colombian freighter launched (03/12/2008)
British Airways World Cargo today announced the launch of a new Boeing 767-200 weekly freighter service between Bogota, Colombia and Bridgetown, Barbados operated by Intercargo Logistics Corporation. The launch coincides with the opening of a new $600,000 cooling facility in Barbados, that provides additional capacity for perishable shipments to and from Bogota and other Latin American destinations. The new freighter service will also enable customers in the region to connect onto BA World Cargo's extensive global network.
The new airside 4,500 sq ft cooling facility, operated by Airport Refrigeration Inc, has immediate ramp access and is equipped with state-of-the-art refrigeration and humidification systems, and a 25 airline pallet position conveyor system.
Rodrigo Casal, area sales manager for Latin America, the Caribbean and Florida, said: "The launch of this new freighter service and opening of the new cooler facility enables us to provide our Bogota customers with highly sought-after capacity for Constant Fresh shipments to Europe.
"We can now ship perishables from destinations across Latin America and the Caribbean to Barbados, and then transfer them to our line flights connecting to Europe and other mainline destinations, without breaking the cool chain. We expect to receive a lot of fresh flower traffic from Colombia, in particular."
